For the first time in its existence, the Prometheus Award, sponsored by the Libertarian Futurist Society, has resulted in a tie. and will share the award for their works The Gladiator and Ha'Penny respectively.
' A Clockwork Orange received the Prometheus Hall of Fame Award.
The Prometheus Awards were created in 1979 by science fiction author to honour "pro-freedom novels of speculative fiction or science fiction/fantasy, that dramatizes the value of personal liberty, exposes abuses of coercive power to the extremes of tyranny, offers anti-authoritarian satires or imagines a fully free future". In 1982 the Libertarian Futurist Society began sponsoring the award, and added the Hall of Fame for classic works of libertarian fiction. The prize for the Prometheus and Hall of Fame Awards is a gold coin mounted on a plaque. according to the LFS the coin is meant "to represent free trade and free minds".
The Award presentations will be held August 6th, at the World Science Fiction Convention. In 2007, the prize was awarded to ' Glasshouse.
