The shortlist for the 2008 Hugo Awards has been released by Denvention, the host of the World Science Fiction Convention. Canadian leads a strong list of nominees with his novel Rollback. The Hugo will be awarded the weekend of August 6-10th.
It's sad to see no fantasy novels among the nominees; however, two of my new favourite fantasy authors--Scott Lynch and Joe Abercrombie--are up for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer, which is also awarded at World Con.
Full lists of the nominees will appear after the jump.
The Hugo Award for Best Novel:
- Brasyl by
- Halting State by
- The Last Colony by
- Rollback by
- The Yiddish Policemen's Union by
This marks Stross' fifth consecutive Hugo nomination, while Chabon's The Yiddish Policemen's Union continues its genre attack with previous nominations for the Edgar and Nebula Awards.
