Mrs. McCaw Learns To Draw by Kaethe Zemach

by Ann Pisio - Friday, Feb 01, 2008 at 3:37pm

Dudley Ellington has a hard time paying attention in school. It takes him a long time to learn things. He doodles on his papers while daydreaming about racing cars and rocket ships. Luckily, Dudley's teacher, Mrs. McCaw, patiently explains concepts to Dudley over and over, until they make sense.

Mrs. McCaw is accomplished in everything she does...except for drawing! She tries over and over to draw a face on the chalkboard but finally gives up in frustration.

Luckily, Dudley is a talented artist. To the delight of Mrs. McCaw and the entire class, Dudley covers the chalkboard with one amazing face after another.

Kaethe Zemach weaves an inspiring tale of appreciation for the different gifts that each of us has to share, and a suggestion that creative approaches to learning are more meaningful and memorable for children.
