The newest offering by bestselling author is a sequel to Bloodsucking Fiends (1995), and it picks up almost exactly where that novel left off. Jody has turned her boyfriend Tommy into a vampire, much to his disgust. Being undead is a tough gig, and in typical Moore fashion, chaos and hilarity ensue.
I found myself fully pulled into this story, fascinated as it got weirder and weirder. No book can go wrong when it contains a huge shaved cat named Chet (best not to ask). Moore's characters are always unique and entertaining. Teenage goth girl Abby Normal, last seen in Moore's A Dirty Job (2006), joins the cast of characters as the vampires' minion. Several chapters begin with excerpts from her diary detailing her adventures with the vampire couple. This addition enriches the novel and sets it apart from it's predecessor.
You Suck is more humour than horror but that shouldn't detour fans of the Vampire genre. This book is strongly recommended for fans of Douglas Coupland and Tom Robbins as well as anyone who enjoys absurdist comic fiction.
