Prolific author is back with the fourth tale in his Codex Alera series. Once again, shows his talent for blending genres, Captain's Fury will appeal to fans of military fantasy, as well as those who prefer their novels filled with political intrigue.
One can say many things about author , but top of the list has to be his ability to keep his reader's turning pages. Each chapter you finish forces you to read the next until you look up and realize it is after midnight, but maybe, just maybe you can squeeze those last seventy pages in before you pass out.
Two years have passed since the events of Cursor's Fury, and Tavi must marshal Alera's legions against the cunning warriors of the Canim. This would be easier of course, if there wasn't open rebellion against the crown, or if a corrupt senator was not blocking his every move.
With his protagonist Tavi, evokes the best qualities of the Belgariad. Even if by this fourth novel, Tavi has lost much of his "everyman" quality, and has grown into the starring role of fantasy hero. Unlike however, more impact is given to the consequences of the heroes actions. They don't get a free pass simply because they wear the white hats.
While the Codex Alera may never match the more widespread appeal of Dresden Files series- I am sure many Dresden Files fans would prefer to read two of Harry's adventures every year-I for one am happy to watch stretch himself, and expand the world of Alera.
