Test Your Vocabulary to Support the World Food Program
For vocabulary fans everywhere, if you're looking for a way to do your tiny bit for those with less than yourself, you might want to check out freerice.com, a chance to provide food for the starving and a bit of entertainment at the same time.
The point of freerice.com is for you to select correct definitions of words, while donating a few grains of rice to the United Nations World Food Program. Each correctly identified word triggers a donation of 10 grains of rice, while adding to your vocabulary score.
While ten grains of rice may not sound like much, this is a successful example of viral activity on the web. From a meager 830 grains donated on October 7, they have moved, just over a month later, to over 120,000,000 grains of rice donated on November 10, bringing their total to over 1 billion. This could be a great way to while away few minutes while doing something that you can feel isn't a complete waste of your time.
