Refugee by Alan Gratz (from a Two Thumbs Up reviewer)

by McNally Robinson - Friday, Jan 26, 2018 at 4:57pm

Refugee follows three kids: Josef, Isabel, and Mahmoud. All three kids go on harrowing journeys in search of refuge. All will face unimaginable dangers -- from drownings to bombings to betrayals. But there is always the hope of tomorrow. And although Josef, Isabel, and Mahmoud are separated by continents and decades, shocking connections will tie their stories together in the end.

Refugee is a great book that follows three different perspectives of refugee's through the ages. Josef, a Jewish boy from WW2, Isabel a Cuban girl, and Mahmoud a Syrian boy. The character's are very interactive and selfless throughout the book. The characters are so great and all the character's are all so different. Josef wants to prove himself a man, Isabel wants to safely reach Miami, and Mahmoud just wants everything to be okay, which is why I think it's fitting that the book should end with the word 'home'.
