Hoboken Chicken Emergency, by Daniel Pinkwater
by lisa christine Thornton - Thursday, Nov 08, 2007 at 9:43am
The Hoboken Chicken Emergency has been making readers laugh since 1977. Newly revised, with brand-new illustrations by Pulitzer Prize winner , it's time to read it again.
Arthur is sent out to buy a Thanksgiving turkey and he brings back Henrietta, an extremely large chicken who definitely thinks for herself.
Arthur teaches her tricks, just as you would do with a pet, until Henrietta disappears. Although the book is hilarious, Pinkwater creates a real relationship between the boy and the chicken and you feel sorry for Arthur when he must return the bird. Recommended for ages 6 to 9.
