Right Behind You reads like S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders without the retro setting.
Gail Giles has a good grasp on how the modern teenager thinks.
Her characters are alive in the best sense of the term, and her ending, rather than being the saccharine one you are half expecting and desperately hoping won't come, is punchy and realistic. You feel as though the characters will continue on long past the pages of the book.
Right Behind You approaches many issues that most teens deal with, and a few that, hopefully, they never will. Problems are dealt with, not in a didactic or obvious manner, but rather in a way that acknowledges the formidable efforts involved.
Right Behind You deals with mature problems and has mild language.Recommended for ages 13 and up
