How sad not to be able to weep.

I read my first Colleen Houck book on a trip to Churchill, Manitoba—odd considering the book was about tigers and I was visiting Polar Bears. Either way, I became obsessed. The moment I returned home, I rushed to the Library and grabbed the next two books in the series. Luckily I only had to wait about a month and a half for the fourth book to be published, so the book hangover wasn't that bad (it was still terrible). After I read Tiger's Destiny, Houck became an automatic must-read author. This is how I came to read Reawakened.

Mythology is my obsession, and while there are tons of different mythologies out there, Egyptian mythology is up there as one my favourites. The stories about Anubis have especially been some of my favourites, which made Reawakened perfect. Houck certainly did her research but she also added to the stories and made some of the myths her own, which gave the story a new twist.

I noticed, however, how Houck kind of did a complete 180 when it came to the backstory of main character Lily as compared to her Tiger's Curse character, Kelsey. Where Kelsey is an orphan and always misses the parents whom she loved, Lily is somewhat frightened by her parents and feels too much pressure to be their little puppet. It was refreshing to see how not everyone has a perfect home life and I love how Houck show some examples of how diverse peoples lives can be.

Honestly, the book itself was just fabulous. In the beginning, I was a little bit skeptical because the description reminded me a lot of Tiger's Curse but in the end, it was its own story, and a great one at that. Houck's writing continues to leave me speechless. Recreated, the sequel to Reawakened is set to release sometime in 2016, but honestly I just need it now.
