Fall into some great new fiction

Wednesday, Oct 02, 2013 at 2:35pm

Fall is officially upon us, so why not get comfortable with a few of these new releases:

Joseph Boyden
Opening with a brutal battle in the 1630s between the Huron and the Iroquois, The Orenda, the new novel by the Scotiabank Giller Prize-Winning author, brings a vivid immediacy to the social, political and spiritual forces that forged our country.

Michael Winter
Known as a writer who takes chances, he does just that in his new novel, Minister Without Portfolio. When an alcoholic drifter gets embedded with the Canadian forces in Afghanistan, he finds himself in the middle of our generation's defining international struggle.

Jonathan Lethem
While we may be familiar with the McCarthyism of the 1950s which assumed a communist was under every bed, not much is known about the real American Communist Party and its Depression-era heyday. In his complex and epic new novel, Dissident Gardens, Lethem considers what happened to the ACP in a story that spans three decades of all-American radicals.
