Changeling by Philippa Gregory (a review from our Two Thumbs Up review panel)

by McNally Robinson - Saturday, Jul 28, 2012 at 12:45pm

Despite their vows, despite themselves, love grows between Luca and Isolde as they travel across Europe with their faithful companions, Freize and Ishraq. The four young people encounter werewolves, alchemists, witches, and death-dancers as they head toward a real-life historical figure who holds the boundaries of Christendom and the secrets of the Order of the Dragon.

Changeling by Philippa Gregory, will take readers on an adventure through another time with its vivid imagery and interesting character revelations. Although it takes some time to get into, the fascinating conflicts later on are worth the slower start. At certain points, the writing is so well-done that the scene is as haunting as a horror movie. The book's ending leaves room for a sequel, which will certainly be just as thrilling as the first. Philippa Gregory's endeavor into the young adult genre has proved to be a gripping success.
