For years, Tom's drifted from casino to casino with his unlucky gambler of a dad, gaming for their survival. Keeping a roof over their heads depends on a careful combination of skill, luck, con artistry, and staying invisible. Then one day, Tom stops being invisible. Someone's been watching his virtual-reality prowess, and he's offered the incredible - a place at the Pentagonal Spire, an elite military academy. Life at the Spire holds everything that Tom's always wanted - friends, the possibility of a girlfriend, and a life where his every action matters - but what will it cost him?

This book was my favorite book that I have read so far. There was a lot of action, with many battle scenes, but it also had some scary moments. The plot had many aspects to it, romance, torture, treachery, danger, and surprise at every chapter. Also, it was a new and creative idea for a book, and it worked. It is an interesting look at the near future and proposes a realistic yet revolutionary idea. The author's style of writing made the book very easy to read; the sentences and paragraphs were smooth and flowed well together. This was a great book, and I would rate it a 5 out of 5.
