IBBY Canada Cleaver Picture Book Award
The Elizabeth Mrazik-Cleaver Award was established in 1985 following the death of Elizabeth Mrazik-Cleaver, one of Canada's pre-eminent book illustrators. The recipient is a Canadian illustrator of a picture book published in Canada in English or French during the previous calendar year. This year, the award was presented to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, illustrated by . According to the press release:
This is a captivating book in every way... The windowed book cover, gold embossed pages, detailed end pages, and faded, old-photograph colouring of the illustrations, are all visual pieces that work together to make reading it a special adventure. Lipchenko's illustrations are more than images on a page, they are a homage to the surreal quality and humour of Lewis Carroll's text, as well as a meticulously and brilliantly constructed original vision of a longstanding tradition in children's literature.
