Based on a Book by Alexandra Kroeger - Monday, Mar 29, 2010 at 9:24pm

Maybe Hollywood is getting lazy, or maybe they're finally realizing how awesome kids' books are (it's probably the latter. We're biased). In any case, there have been a lot of books for kids that have been made into movies lately - and there are even more coming out soon. Here at McNally Robinson, we think that the books are usually better than the movies. What do you think?

Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney
It's a new school year, and Greg Heffley finds himself thrust into middle school, where undersized weaklings share the hallways with kids who are taller, meaner, and already shaving. The hazards of growing up before you're ready are uniquely revealed through words and drawings as Greg records them in his diary.

How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell
Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III was an awesome sword-fighter, a dragon-whisperer and the greatest Viking Hero who ever lived. But it wasn't always like that. In fact, in the beginning, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III was the most put-upon Viking you'd ever seen.

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school...again. And that's the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he's angered a few of them. Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.

Coming Up:

Guardians of Ga'hoole by Katherine Lasky (coming out September 2010)
When Soren, a young owlet, mysteriously falls from his nest one evening, he's plucked up and taken to the sinister St. Aegolius Academy for Orphaned Owls. Once there, he must use his wits and bravery to escape his captors. If Soren can learn to fly, he might just be able to take refuge with a group of brave owls he'd thought only to be a legend--the Guardians of Ga?Hoole!

Beezus and Ramona by Beverly Cleary (coming out July 2010)
Ramona's sister, Beezus, tries very hard to be patient, but how many nine-year-old girls have to put up with their embarrassing, annoying little four-year-old sisters? Sisters are supposed to love each other, but pesky little Ramona just doesn't seem very lovable to Beezus.
