Canadian authors swept the nominations for best book in the Caribbean and Canadian section, with half of the titles in that category being first novels (Euphoria, Goya's Dog, and The Golden Mean).

Absent on the list for best book are some of the biggest Canadian literary titles of the past year, including The Year of the Flood, Too Much Happiness, and Scotiabank Giller Prize-winning The Bishop's Man. And several titles snubbed by the juries for the Giller and the Governor General's Award - notably, Galore and February - are getting their due. The winners of the Caribbean and Canada region will be announced on March 11, 2010, and will then go on to compete against the other regional winners. The overall winner will be announced on April 12, 2010.
