National Jewish Book Award by McNally Robinson - Tuesday, Jan 19, 2010 at 10:29am Toronto author Joseph Kertes's Gratitude was named winner of the National Jewish Book Award for Fiction in New York earlier this week.

Kertes is Dean of the School of Creative and Performing Arts at Humber College and is the founder of the Humber School for Writers. He was born in Hungary but escaped with his family during the 1956 revolution. While attending the University of Toronto, he was encouraged in his writing by Marshall McLuhan. Gratitude is a huge sprawling wonderful novel based on his family's experience in Hungary during WW2.
