SF Awards Parade Continues by Chadwick Ginther - Sunday, Jul 19, 2009 at 10:48am

Recently, a number of Science Fiction/Fantasy Awards have been presented. The Cordwainer Smith Rediscovery Award, for fiction "of unusual originality deserving of renewed attention" went to A. Merrit. The announcement was made at Readercon in Boston. Merrit's work is widely believed to be an inspiration for the hit television show, Lost.

Also announced at Readercon were the Shirley Jackson Awards, honouring literature of dark fantasy, horror and suspense. Jeffery Ford won in the best novel category for The Shadow Year. A complete list of winners may be found here.

The Libertarian Futurist Society announced the winners of the 2009 Prometheus Awards. Cory Doctorow's Little Brother received the Best Novel prize, while J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings won the Hall of Fame award.
