In a recent interview with USA Weekend, Stephen King praised J.K. Rowling as a "terrific writer" but went on to add that Stephenie Meyer, author of the bestselling Twilight series, "can't write worth a darn. She's not very good."

Meyer's fans were quick to respond with an avalanche of online postings. "stephan ur a gerk" wrote one devotee. Other comments included:

"and personally i think she's MUCH better than J.K. Rowling...his books just arnt that good."

and:

"If Stephenie Meyer weren't a good write would so many people buy her books? Would they have made a movie about it? Have they made a movie about this dude's books?"

It's hard to argue with that.
