Marjorie Hughes has been interested in aquatic entomology ever since elementary school when her teacher encouraged dip netting at a local pond. After graduating with a BSc Honours in Zoology from the University of Manitoba Marjorie worked as a Research Technician with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans analyzing insect light trap samples and preparing microscope slides of insects. Later she worked for the Manitoba Government Environmental Management, responsible for benthos sample analysis for water quality research, analysis of data and research into current methods and, more recently, with ALS Environmental .Marjorie was a part of the team at the Manitoba Government Conservation Data Centre when they completed the assessment of the status of Manitoba species of dragonflies and integrated the Canadian assessment data.
