Irene Ternier Gordon is the author of seven books on Canadian history. Five of them -- including The Battle of Seven Oaks and the Violent Birth of the Red River Settlement -- deal with the fur trade era between 1760 and the late 1800s. Her interest in history began when she was a child living in west-central Saskatchewan in the middle of the area where the 1885 or Riel Rebellion took place -- an event many people today believe was a resistance rather than a rebellion. She has a degree in history and began writing in 2003 after a 15-year career as a junior high teacher-librarian. When she is not writing or researching, she travels extensively. www.ireneterniergordon.ca.
