The Sydney Taylor Book Award memorializes Sydney Taylor, author of the classic All-of-a-Kind Family series. AJL (Association of Jewish Libraries) has been promoting quality Jewish literature for children through book awards since 1968, and has chosen to recognize Taylor because of her unique contribution to the genre. The All-of-a-Kind Family books were the first "mainstream" Judaic children's literature, and AJL seeks to uphold Taylor's literary standard by awarding books that explore Jewish life in a manner that is both authentic and enjoyable.
