Mireille Levert
Mireille Levert was born in 1956, in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. Behind her parents’ house, she played in a very beautiful garden, constructing small houses of branches and building castles of snow. At age twelve, Mireille decided to be an artist. Her art teacher at the time gave her such great support that to this day she considers him the guardian angel of her childhood. She studied arts at the local community college, received her Bachelor of Arts at the University of Quebec in Montreal, and later continued to study to be an art teacher. Her artistic career has taken many turns. She has been a mural painter, a teacher of batik, an assistant bookseller and a window dresser. Since 1975 she has illustrated children’s books and magazine articles. Her artwork has been exhibited in Canada, the United States, France, Italy and Japan, and has won numerous international awards. With her watercolors, Mireille transforms simple things into magic. She loved books as a child and discovered that reading is a lot like traveling on a journey through imaginary lands. Her childhood remains a source of inspiration to her.
