The Arrival of Someday by Jen Malone (from a Two Thumbs Up reviewer)

Monday, Oct 28, 2019 at 9:29pm

Amelia Linehan was busy being a badass during her last year of high school. She had few worries – her parents are cool, she received notification of her early acceptance into Amherst, and she and her best friend Sibby are kicking ass on the roller derby track. But one day all that comes crashing down – her rare liver disease, diagnosed at birth and which she had almost forgotten, suddenly flares up and everything is changed. She becomes a victim in the eyes of every one, which she hates. Amelia is not prepared for the consequences of what is happening to her body. Without a liver transplant, she will surely die before she can put any of her plans into action and her adult life even really begins.

The author has written a pitch-perfect YA book perfectly capturing the horrid reality of the effect her character’s disease has on her future – or lack thereof. Malone has created a character who is charismatic, compelling, and very real.

If you are looking for a very well-written book with characters so well-drawn that you’d like to spend time with them, The Arrival of Someday is for you. You’ll be tempted to speed read this book, but don’t. You don’t want to miss the carefully crafted nuanced writing, the humor, sometimes morbid, and Amelia’s longing to be “normal” again.

The Grace Year by Kim Liggett (from a Two Thumbs Up reviewer)

$27.00

Tierney James was born into her little community with the same expectations as all little girls. At the age of 16 she would leave her village to spend the year rotting away in a dead and poisonous encampment trying to lose her so called dangerous magic. After facing what seems like betrayal, Tierney leaves her village and settles into the encampment. She then discovers that her company for the year intended to make it a living nightmare. Unable to take anymore, Tierney looks for a way out and finds herself in an unexpected, life changing place. Finding the answers to her forbidden dreams, Tierney settles in to live her life.

The Grace Year is a haunting mystery bringing twists and turns of death and danger. A story of a girl longing for a life other than the one cut out for her- wanting her owns ways and to choose her own life. Kim Liggett leaves you with a book that is nothing close to the pink cover. A book leaving you exposed to a whole new world and dimension.

All We Could Have Been by T.E. Carter (from a Two Thumbs Up reviewer)

Monday, Oct 21, 2019 at 9:10pm

Five years ago, Lexi witnessed something that shattered her very core. To cope, she moves from town to town, desperate to hide the darkest of family secrets. In every location, she assumes a new name and flies under the radar as long as she can before anyone figures out who she is—who she’s related to. Lexie now lives with her aunt, has minimal interaction with her parents, and has no communication with her brother. But the pain is always there. After starting her newest school, all she wants is to just live life. But how can she when the past keeps threatening to drag her back?

All We Could Have Been is a truly amazing book about how someone`s actions can affect another person`s whole life, for better or sometimes for worse. It talks about how Lexi`s life is ruined because of her brother. Also how every year she has had to move from place to place because of how people treated in her home city and every city she went to after that.

The only thing I would change about this book is the age rating. It is rated 13 - 18 years old and I would definitely make it a little bit older.

Carols and Chaos by Cindy Anstey (from a Two Thumbs Up reviewer)

Meet Kate Darby and Matt Harlow. They both work at an estate called Shackleford Park. There, Kate acts as a lady’s maid and Matt as valet for two brothers. As it is nearly Christmas, they are both busy with their regular chores and holiday preparations, on top of other things. They are also in love. Suddenly, among the hustle and bustle of their love and the holidays, they are dragged into the danger of a counterfeiting scheme. What will happen to Matt and Kate?

I found Carols & Chaos pretty uninteresting and hard to get into. So, because of this I give it two out of five stars.

And When all is over Chrystal makes the decision to stay with her newly adopted farm family and her newly found boyfriend and happily settles for country girl instead of city girl.

In the woods is one of the most intriguing books I have ever read. I have always thought that words in a page could not give you chills until I read this book. It leaves you wanting more and on edge as the mysteries of this brilliant book unravel.
