Eisner Award Nominations Announced by Chadwick Ginther - Wednesday, Apr 08, 2009 at 9:37am

The Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards have released the ballot for the 2009 honours. Canadian cousins Mariko and Jillian Tamaki have received four nominations for their debut work Skim. Other creators to receive multiple nominations include Emmanuel Guibert for Alan's War, Lynda Barry for What It Is, and Nate Powell for Swallow Me Whole. Among the most honoured series are Dark Horse's The Umbrella Academy by Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba; Vertigo's Fables, written by Bill Willingham and art team Mark Buckingham and Steve Leialoha; and Madame Xanadu by Matt Wagner and Amy Reeder Hadley and Richard Friend. Marvel Comics received three nominations for J. Michael Straczynski's reboot of Thor with art by Oliver Coipel.

Graphic Novel Writing and Illustration Contest at Saskatoon Store by Allison Fairbairn - Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 4:52pm

Write and illustrate your own 10-15 page graphic novel, with original characters, story, and artwork. Content must be appropriate for ages 10-14.

The contest is open to anyone ages 10-14.

Submission deadline is August 9, 2008. 1st, 2nd and 3rd-place winners will be contacted August 16. All submissions must be left at the Kids Desk in an envelope marked with the author/illustrator’s name, age, address, phone number, and parent’s name.

Submissions may be retrieved after August 16, 2008.
