novel The New Moon's Arms has won the author her second Sunburst Award. She previously won for Skin Folk. 2008 also saw an award presented for the first time for Young Adult literature. This year's winner in that category was Anthem of a Reluctant Prophet by .
The Sunburst Awards are a juried prize celebrating excellence in Canadian speculative fiction.

The Sunburst Awards, a juried prize for Canadian literature of the fantastic, have announced their shortlist in both adult and young adult categories. The 2008 prize will be for books published in 2007, and includes some of Canadian genre publishing's top names.

The Arthur Ellis Awards, named for Canada's former official hangman, are awarded to works within the crime genre published for the first time in the previous year. The respective authors must be either living in Canada, or Canadians writing from abroad.
The Arthur Ellis Awards have also recently begun awarding their "Unhanged Arthur" for best unpublished crime novel, designed to launch the careers of the next generation of Canadian crime writers.
Congratulations to Winnipeg's , who has two novels nominated in the juvenile category.

Winnipeg writer Martha Brooks has won the Vicky Metcalf Award. The $15,000 national literary award honours Martha's entire body of work. The award was presented on Tuesday night in Toronto.

The winners of the 2007 Cybils Awards (The Children's and YA Bloggers' Literary Awards) were announced on Thursday, February 14th. The Cybils are the only online literary awards. To win, books must combine both literary merit and kid or young adult appeal.
