Turn Coat by Jim Butcher by Chadwick Ginther - Thursday, Apr 09, 2009 at 8:50am

You'd have to forgive wizard private detective Harry Dresden if he didn't feel a touch of schadenfreude when Warden Morgan shows up at his door after being hunted as a traitor by the rest of the White Council. Discworld Creeps a Little Closer to Earth by Chadwick Ginther - Monday, Apr 06, 2009 at 8:18pm

Sir Terry Pratchett, author of the bestselling Discworld series, was on hand in Wincanton, Somerset to unveil the street names inspired by his novels. Wincanton's link to Pratchett's fictional universe began in 2002 when the town was officially twinned with Ankh-Morpork, a Discworld city. Residents were asked to vote for their favourite road names from a list of fourteen provided by the author. Pratchett quipped: "Personally, I'd pay good money to live somewhere called Treacle Mine Road."

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins by Alexandra Kroeger - Monday, Mar 30, 2009 at 8:50pm

Every year a boy and a girl are chosen from the twelve districts of Panem (the post-apocalyptic United States) to compete in the Hunger Games. There's nothing fun about them. These games, held for the entertainment of the Capitol, are "Survivor" on overdrive. The person who wins the games wins fame and fortune for the rest of his or her days - but the winner, having hunted down and killed the rest of the contestants, is also the only one who comes out of the games alive.

Katniss is very well aware that she might be picked to compete; after all, she has put extra ballots into the draw for years in order to help feed her family. But she is not prepared at all when her younger sister's name is picked. Katniss knows that she herself would have a slim enough chance for survival, but Prim would have none at all. So she volunteers herself to go in her sister's stead.

When I am asked what my favourite science fiction novel is, invariably the answer is: "The last one by Robert Sawyer". With the publication of Wake, the first in Sawyer's WWW trilogy about the rising of consciousness from within the World Wide Web, Rollback must sadly make way for the new title holder.
