The Magic Raincoat

by Ann Pisio - Tuesday, Oct 09, 2007 at 8:59pm

The Magic Raincoat, by Ryan David, Illustrated by Sibylla Benatova The Magic Raincoat makes wishes come true. Emily tells her brother she wishes he was a dog, and suddenly he is! She also wishes for and receives a million dollars. Then she learns her lesson. She wishes her Daddy was home all the time. He loses his job, and Emily feels terrible. By the end of the story, Emily undoes all of the wishing she has done, and enlightened, decides to only do "good" with the raincoat. This is the perfect book for families with scrapbookers. Each page is a work of papercraft, rubber-stamping, ink, and button art, and takes the opportunity to introduce young minds to multi-dimensional mixed mediums. It's also a cautionary tale of where thoughtless excess can lead you, if you're not careful. Beautifully put together, an altogether treat for parents and children alike.
