The Key Hunters: The Spy's Secret by Eric Luper (from a Two Thumbs Up reviewer)

by McNally Robinson - Saturday, Mar 11, 2017 at 3:25pm

Cleo and Evan have a secret. A collection of books so dangerous they are locked up tight. A friend has vanished inside the pages of one of them. It's up to them to find the key that will set her free. A SPY MUST BE READY FOR ANYTHING! Agents Cleo and Evan have been given an impossible mission: become super-spies and foil the plans of an evil mastermind. But it won't be easy to break into the Viper's secret underwater lair, complete a daring rescue, find the right key, and get out alive!

The Spy's Secret is the second book in the Key Hunters series. It has everything a good spy book should have. These elements are: having at least one interpreting spy, lots of adventure, an evil villian that leads an organization and threatens the world, a secret location, and some cool spy gadgets! Overall, I think the series is quite good for kids 7-10 years old. I give this book a 4 out of 5 star rating. Read the other books to find out what happens to Cleo and Evan on their missions. There is also a game where you find keys and avoid Ms.Crowley and a quiz to find out what genre you fit in with. Here is the link for it, have fun! http://www.scholastic.com/keyhunters/

The House of Months and Years by Emma Trevayne (from a Two Thumbs Up reviewer)

by McNally Robinson - Monday, Mar 06, 2017 at 4:29pm

This book is about a 10-year-old girl named Amelia. She is living a perfect cousin-free life until her aunt and uncle die, then she has to move with her parents into her cousin's home. The house is old and inhabited by an immortal being named Horatio. Horatio determines that Amelia is the right person to learn about himself and the house’s secrets.

This book was full of adventure, excitement, and travel. If you like any of those things, you’ll enjoy this book too!

Do you want a super power? Maybe to fly? Maybe to turn into an animal? If you already have this power you are likely an animalgam. A human with the power to turn into an animal. Simon Thorn is one of those people. However, he is different, he is the beast kings heir. This means he can turn into any animal. When Simon gets a message from his mother saying to come to her, Simon wants to leave right away, but some complications stop him. Eventually, he and his friends leave to find his mother, but they are faced with impossible decisions, powerful enemies and a possible traitor. This is the second book in the Simon Thorn Series and I would recommend reading the first book before reading this one.

The Gauntlet by Karuna Riazi (from a Two Thumbs Up reviewer)

by McNally Robinson - Sunday, Feb 26, 2017 at 10:24am

The Gauntlet is a game made up of three challenges, and an extra one if you win all three. The three challenges are all life-size games. The architect controls the game, and if you fail to win, the Gauntlet takes you as a prisoner. Farah, Alex, and Essie find the Gauntlet on Farah’s birthday. They decide to play it, but after they set it up, Farah’s brother Ahmad jumps into the game. Farah and her friends go in to save him. What will happen to Farah, Alex, and Essie? Will they become prisoners of the game? Find out by reading The Gauntlet!

I liked this book because it was fun to read and I couldn’t wait to find out what would happen next. It was cool how the games were all life-size. If I was in the Gauntlet, I would be excited to do the challenges, but also a little scared. I really recommend this book to people who like board games. I think it is a really good book.
