The Canadian Association of Children's Librarians Section of the Canadian Association of Public Libraries, a division of the Canadian Library Association, has announced the shortlist for the 2009 Book of the Year Award for Children.

The New York Times has released its annual list of 100 outstanding titles in fiction, non-fiction and poetry published in 2008.

The newspaper also published a list of eight Notable Children's Books.

Penguins, Toni Morrison and Harry Potter most challenged books of 2006

Topping the list was And Tango Makes Three, a tale of two male penguins parenting an egg from a mixed-sex penguin. Toni Morrison's novels Beloved and The Bluest Eye also made the list, but the most challenged books of the 21st century remain J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter novels

It's not easy encouraging kids, especially city kids, to be interested in nature. I know - I have two of 'em (city kids, that is). But Lark Books' My Favorite Nature Books may be just the ticket.
