Denare Beach author, , has been awarded the Canadian Science Writers' 2008 Science in Society Journalism Award in the children's book category for her book The Canadian Shield Alphabet. Guymer attended the gala awards event in Sudbury Saturday, May 23 to accept the certificate and $1,000.

Sir , author of the bestselling Discworld series, was on hand in Wincanton, Somerset to unveil the street names inspired by his novels. Wincanton's link to Pratchett's fictional universe began in 2002 when the town was officially twinned with Ankh-Morpork, a Discworld city. Residents were asked to vote for their favourite road names from a list of fourteen provided by the author. Pratchett quipped: "Personally, I'd pay good money to live somewhere called Treacle Mine Road."

Harry Potter author was near tears while giving evidence yesterday in the copyright case being heard in front of the U.S. District Court in Manhattan, according to The Guardian newspaper. Warner Brothers and Rowling want to block publication of an unauthorized Harry Potter encyclopedia by Michigan-based RDR Books.
