So, if your parents dropped you off with the grandparents you never see so they could go to the funeral of the grandparents you knew and liked would you be happy? Kendra and her brother Seth are most certainly not. Once they get to their grandparents' house, they find that Grandma is missing. Grandpa's vague explanations and strict rules cause Seth to wander onto forbidden grounds, and Kendra to investigate the mysteries she finds in the house. Soon they discover the whole estate is a preserve for magical beings - and learning when to follow the rules and when to follow your heart quickly becomes a matter of life and death.

I liked this story. I did. I just didn't really believe the main plot line.
Marcus Jordan is the new kid in town, and wanna-be quarterback of the high school football team. It's just not reasonable that it would take a smart kid like Marcus so long to figure out that his anonymous 50 year old football buddy and coach has something seriously wrong with him.

It's the first day of first grade, and it's all hands on deck for a young pirate and his crew. How much trouble can they get into? What will they do at recess? And, most important, what treasure awaits them at school? (From jacket flap)
Arrrg, this be a fine book, indeed! It is basically a back-to-school book, but definitely one that stands out amongst the rest. First of all, the watercolour illustrations are very well done and suit the book and its subject perfectly; I especially liked the make-believe pirates cavorting across every page. Secondly, and most importantly, it is written entirely in pirate-speak. Shiver me timbers, that be exciting! There is even a small glossary in the back of the book for you non-pirate speakers. A Pirate's Guide to the First Grade would be a fantastic book to read out loud, and a wonderful addition to any book collection.

The big question: Is Origami Yoda real? Of course he's a real finger puppet made of a real piece of paper, but is he REAL? Can he really see the future and use the Force?
This is the dilemma facing the Grade 6 students of McQuarrie Middle School. Origami Yoda is the creation of Dwight, who is the oddest kid in school, but also an origami master. Origami Yoda appears to give advice that actually works - but how can he be so smart and Dwight so clueless? This is Tommy's (Dwight's friend) case file of his investigation into The Strange Case of Origami Yoda.
I found that Origami Yoda's advice coupled with his hilarious "Yoda speak" to be a lot of fun. The problems facing the kids in McQuarrie Middle School are realistic as well as outrageous. The result is a funny, quirky story complete with silly line drawings that will be sure to appeal to fans of Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Awesome this book is!
