Fantasy News Roundup by Chadwick Ginther - Thursday, Jan 08, 2009 at 12:52pm

Later this year, fantasy author Terry Pratchett will be named a Knight Bachelor for his contributions to literature. Pratchett was diagnosed in 2007 with Alzheimer's, and has since become a vocal campaigner for Dementia research. Congratulations, Sir Terence!

And in other news....

J.R.R. Tolkien, prior to publishing The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, was the professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford. It was there that he retold the legend of Sigurd as narrative verse. That work has remained unpublished until now. In May, Harper Collins will release The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrún, edited by Tolkien's son Christopher who will also pen the book's introduction. Sigurd's tale has long been one of my favourite legends, and I couldn't be more excited to see what the master of fantasy has done with it.
