ChiZine Publications: The New Canadian Source for Horror by Chadwick Ginther - Monday, Apr 28, 2008 at 5:44pm

ChiZine: Treatments of Light and Shade in Words, the horror magazine edited by Bram Stoker Award-winning Brett Alexander Savory, is starting up its own book imprint. ChiZine Publications will be dedicated to bringing its readers the same (as Brett puts it) "weird, subtle, surreal, disturbing dark fiction and fantasy" the magazine has been publishing for the past ten years.

Shakespeare had something completely different in mind when he wrote the above, but it nicely fits the feeling of readers when their favourite author's new book is delayed. I found myself wondering, last night, just who it is that suffers the most when a book doesn't arrive as expected.

Martha Brooks Wins Vicky Metcalf Award by Lynn Popham - Thursday, Apr 03, 2008 at 11:19am

Winnipeg writer Martha Brooks has won the Vicky Metcalf Award. The $15,000 national literary award honours Martha's entire body of work. The award was presented on Tuesday night in Toronto.

Raincoast No Longer a Canadian Publisher by david pensato - Tuesday, Jan 08, 2008 at 4:59pm

The CBC is reporting that Raincoast Books will be shedding the publishing branch of its business. Citing the pinch the book industry has felt over the discrepancy between Canadian and U.S. book prices, Raincoast marketing vice-president Jamie Broadhurst said that closing the division was a difficult but necessary decision.
