An Interview with Andrew Davidson by Ryan McBride - Tuesday, Aug 05, 2008 at 1:23pm

With total advances (not including film rights) approaching the two million-dollar mark, Andrew Davidson has rocked the publishing world with his debut novel The Gargoyle.

Growing up in Pinawa, home of Atomic Energy of Canada's former Whiteshell Laboratories, he traveled the world before moving back to Winnipeg in 2008 to finish what Sara Gruen (author of Water for Elephants) describes as "a hypnotic, horrifying, astonishing novel."

Andrew kindly took the time to answer some questions for our website readers. The full interview follows.

Wizards of the Coast to Axe Discovery Line by Chadwick Ginther - Monday, Jul 21, 2008 at 5:26pm

Wizards, a division of Hasbro Inc., has decided to discontinue its Discoveries line of novels after December 2008 to concentrate on its core books based on the worlds of Dungeons and Dragons and Magic the Gathering. Discoveries published works of original fiction that usually had some horror or fantasy element. A number of other forthcoming novels in Wizards' Eberron setting were also cancelled.

Return of the Ghost Who Walks by Chadwick Ginther - Sunday, Jun 29, 2008 at 4:44pm

The rights to the comic character The Phantom have been acquired by Dynamite Entertainment. Dynamite, a company that has made a name for itself with other media tie-in properties such as Army of Darkness, The Lone Ranger and Battlestar Galactica, seeks to revitalize the character by bringing comic giant Alex Ross onboard to update the Phantom's costume. Ross, a fan favourite artist who has worked on such books as Marvels and Kingdom Come, also recently designed the new costume for Marvel Comics' Captain America.

Terry Goodkind Signs Three-Book Deal with Putnam by Chadwick Ginther - Sunday, Jun 29, 2008 at 4:25pm

According to Publisher's Weekly, fantasy juggernaut Terry Goodkind will be leaving longtime publisher Tor Books, for whom he recently completed his bestselling Sword of Truth series.

Goodkind seeks to move into mainstream fiction territory, but it remains to be seen if his fantasy fans will make the jump with him. His first book for Putnam, due fall 2009 and as yet untitled, will be a contemporary thriller set in an American city. The three novels will stand alone and not form part of a series.
