The winner will be named at an awards ceremony in Toronto on May 1. Each runner-up will receive $7,500. In the past, the prize has been presented to Doug Saunders (Arrival City, 2011) and Brian Bow (The Politics of Linkage, 2010).

The Leacock Memorial Medal is a prestigious annual honour, accompanied by a $15,000 prize, awarded for the best in Canadian humour writing. The award has attained an international reputation and is the only award of its kind for Canadian humour writing.
The winner will be announced at the Leacock Luncheon on April 26. The Leacock Medal and the accompanying $15,000 prize will be awarded on June 9 at the annual award gala.

The Manitoba Writers' Guild and the Association of Manitoba Book Publishers announced the Manitoba Book Awards shortlists for books published in 2011 yesterday. The 2012 awards will be presented at the Manitoba Book Awards gala, on Saturday April 28th at the Centre Culturel Franco-Manitobain and hosted by Drek Daa. Cocktails are at 7:00 p.m., with the ceremony beginning at 8:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
The shortlists and recipients are selected by a variety of juries, comprised of writers, publishers and other book industry personnel from across Canada.

Author Andrew Westoll has been awarded the Charles Taylor prize for his book The Chimps of Fauna Sanctuary: A Canadian Story of Resilience and Recovery. The Charles Taylor Foundation awards the $25,000 prize to the author whose book "best combines a superb command of the English language, an elegance of style, and a subtlety of thought and perception."
