Crime Writer's Association Releases Dagger Shortlists by Chadwick Ginther - Monday, Jun 08, 2009 at 6:39pm

The CWA's Dagger Awards shortlists are out, and it looks like the Scandinavians have taken the knives to the competition. Of the six finalists for the International Dagger, which celebrates the best spy, thriller, suspense, crime or mystery novel translated into English for U.K. publication, France's Fred Vargas was the only non-scandinavian on the list.

Linda L. Richards' first novel featuring drunken private dick Dexter J. Theroux and plucky secretary Kitty Pangborn, Death Was the Other Woman, was one of my favourite novels of 2008. The follow up, Death Was in the Picture will without a doubt find itself in similar company for 2009. Linda was kind enough to agree to a brief email interview to answer some of my questions.

Anthony kindly took time out of his busy writing and promotion schedule, he is launching Aloha, Candy Hearts on May 26 in Saskatoon and on June 1 in Winnipeg, in order to answer some email questions I had about his writing process, his series and Russell Quant himself.

Louise Penny Wins the Agatha Award for Best Novel by Chadwick Ginther - Monday, May 04, 2009 at 7:29pm

Montreal's Louise Penny, who was recently shortlisted for the Arthur Ellis Award for best novel for her novel The Murder Stone, has also won an Agatha Award for The Cruellest Month. The Agathas, named for Agatha Christie, celebrate the "traditional mystery", or works written in the tradition of the grand dame of crime.
