Betrayed by her own longing to be at sea with her sea captain husband, and by her loneliness, Azuba finds herself closeted with her young daughter on her unforgiving husband's sailing ship. Over the next three years of heart stopping adventures, Azuba endures vicious storms, starvation, pregnancy and childbirth, and the shock of cold-blooded pirates. The enormity of world travel in the 1860's changes Azuba utterly as she and her husband slowly, tentatively learn how to trust each other again.

Watch here this weekend for the announcement of the official line-up of the 2011 TD Winnipeg International Jazz Festival, which runs from June 16-25.
So far it has been announced that both the Lincoln Centre Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis and jazz lounge orchestra Pink Martini are returning to the Festival. And it leaked to the press recently that Robert Plant will be bringing his Band of Joy to the Concert Hall as one of the headlining acts as well.
It is always an exciting time when the line-up is announced so check back with us Friday afternoon for the full line-up.
Moonwalking with Einstein is a smart book about brain science that convinces us that the mind is capable of epic achievements. Joshua draws on cutting-edge research, a surprising cultural history of memory, and venerable tricks of the mentalist's trade to transform our understanding of human remembering. Under the tutelage of top "mental athletes," he learns ancient techniques once employed by Cicero to memorize his speeches and by Medieval scholars to memorize entire books. Using methods that have been largely forgotten, Foer discovers that we can all dramatically improve our memories.
