Fossil Love Story: A Review of Stephen Jay Gould's Wonderful Life by ian toal - Saturday, Mar 14, 2009 at 11:55am

As odd as it may sound, Wonderful Life is a science love story about fossils. The author, the late Steven Jay Gould, loves his subject (paleontology/ evolution), loves the people who worked so hard on the fossils, and above all, loves the strange little organisms that lived and died 530 million years ago.

When I am asked what my favourite science fiction novel is, invariably the answer is: "The last one by Robert Sawyer". With the publication of Wake, the first in Sawyer's WWW trilogy about the rising of consciousness from within the World Wide Web, Rollback must sadly make way for the new title holder.

Despite being forced to study it in high school, King Lear remains my favourite of William Shakespeare's tragedies. Normally, I would be quite hesitant to read a black comedy satirizing the play, but not when it is being penned by madman Christopher Moore.
